Last week we launched a new series of tutorials that provide a step-by-step guide for anyone wishing to learn basic through to advanced data profiling techniques.

The series includes workbooks, sample retail data and a fully featured data quality tool, DQ Analyzer, courtesy of Ataccama.

Retail Data Profiling Tutorial - Lesson 2 (Includes Free Data Quality Software)

This second tutorial continues on from the first tutorial and an exploration of data quality levels in our fictitious ground coffee data mart for WonderMart, a major retailer.

For those new to the series, the course examines ground coffee sales over a one year period in a business data mart. There have been several issues reported by management since a new interactive dashboard has been introduced (see below) that places increased dependence on high quality data.

Acting as a data quality analyst, you must complete a data quality measurement and reporting activity, highlighting the issues discovered and creating a continual monitoring solution.

In this tutorial we extend the basic profiling activities and begin to introduce custom business rules to manage more complex data quality rules.

We also explore how to create plans that measure data quality across data flows using some of the more advanced features of DQ Analyzer, as shown below:
